The Best Way to Freeze Strawberries
Picked lots of berries this year? While eating them fresh is always best, it’s nice to be able to preserve a little taste of summer to pull out of your freezer when winter gets long. Frozen strawberries are great for baking, topping desserts or pancakes with, or making into smoothies! Below are our step by step instructions for the best way to freeze strawberries. This process will help you avoid freezer burn and keep your berries from freezing together in one solid chunk. Check it out…
Step 1
Rinse berries well and thoroughly dry them. They need to be super-dry as any excess water on the outsides will contribute to freezer burn later on.
Step 2
Hull berries (remove stems and leaves) with a sharp, clean knife.
Step 3
Place cleaned, dried, and hulled berries on a rimmed baking sheet in a single layer. Make sure they are spread out pretty well - don’t overcrowd them. Place in the freezer for at least two hours but no longer than 24 hours.
Step 4
Remove frozen berries from baking sheet and place into freezer bags. Be sure to squeeze out all of the air and seal well. Place bags in the freezer!
And you’re done! Now you can enjoy delicious Minnesota strawberries all year long.
